Without them, we would not be able to meet the needs of the kids, families, and adults who live in the Greater Hartford Area.
Volunteering demonstrates caring for others and offers the opportunity to improve the lives of children and families, creating a caring society. By giving your time with the YMCA to benefit others, you have the opportunity to build new relationships, learn, and grow while having fun.
Volunteers contribute their time and talents in many ways:
Program Volunteers-Those who have direct contact with Y members and people in the community. They help the Y lead and deliver programs and services, help with membership, or serve on program advisory councils. Coaches, teen leaders and more!
Administrative Support Volunteers-Those who help out in the office, in the locker room, in the gymnasium, on the grounds, and in many other important ways.
Fundraising Volunteers-Those responsible for the leadership and legwork that goes into successful fundraising campaigns like Strong Kids Annual Fund and other events. In keeping with our mission, we are here to serve all people in the community, regardless of their ability to pay. The Strong Kids Annual Fund and other events support the financial assistance program.
Policy Volunteers-Those who serve on Y boards and committees, and those who act as trustees. Do you have skills in finance, human resources, real estate, construction, legal, or public relations?

Reach & Rise™
Reach & Rise is a national YMCA program designed to build a better future for youth by helping them reach their full potential through the support of caring adults. Reach & Rise supports youth ages 6 to17 who lack role models and are in communities challenged by many socio-economic issues. As a mentor, you can provide a positive and consistent relationship with a young person, helping to improve your mentee’s self-esteem, decision-making skills, school performance, and interpersonal relationships.
