Summer Day Camps Classes Offered at Indian Valley Family YMCA
YMCA Camp Indian Valley (Grades Pre K-9th)
01 Traditional - (Grades K - 8th)
Swimming, fun, and friends is what Camp Indian Valley is all about. At Camp Indian Valley campers have a great camp experience right at the Indian Valley YMCA. Our caring and well trained counselors lead campers through fun activities such as games, arts and crafts, and science and nature! Campers also get to swim every day in the Indian Valley Family YMCA pool in Ellington! Each session campers will celebrate a theme. There will also be a special event such as a moonbounce, a magic show, or musical entertainment several times during the summer! Campers are broken down in three separate groups based on age.
Nipmunks: For campers entering K – 2nd Grade
Day Camp is a whole new experience for younger campers! Nipmunk campers will be introduced to the adventure of camp while getting the special attention our younger campers need. All activities are designed with the interest of your younger camper in mind.
Chippewas: For campers entering 3rd – 5th Grade
Chippewa campers enjoy choosing among a variety of age-appropriate and fun activities. Activities are more challenging to capture the interest of our older campers. Campers will have the opportunity to learn new skills and create many friendships and memories.
Mohegans: For campers entering 6th – 8th Grade
Mohegan campers will enjoy the best of what Camp Indian Valley has to ofer. Activities will be adapted to meet the needs of our oldest campers. These campers will be given weekly opportunities to be mentors to our youngest campers through our mentoring activity.

03 Preschool Specialty Camps Ages 3-5
Our half-day preschool program will give your child the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and learn new skills. Every day will include activities such as arts and crafts, games, stories, and nature exploration. Each week campers will explore an exciting theme. Any child who is 3 years of age by June 20th and has not yet attended Kindergarten may register. Participants should bring a mid-morning snack and drink each day. All children must be potty-trained. All programs are held Monday - Friday from 9:00AM to 12:00Noon. Ages 3 to 5 years. These camps are held at the Indian Valley YMCA Child Care Center, 375 Hartford Tpke, Vernon, CT 06066.
Tiny Dancers 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
6/23-6/27 Session 1
Get Ready to dance! During this week of Tiny Dancers children will have many opportunities to express themselves through dance as they learn basic dance moves and coordinated movements. Dance promotes social development as well as self esteem and fitness but overall dance is fun. The best reason for a child to take dance is because of the rewarding fun they will have. They will meet new friends in an environment where they are free to express themselves! Each day children will also do an art activit. What child wouldn't want to do that?!
Tumble Bugs 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5) No camp July 4
6/30-7/3 Session 2
Preschoolers will enjoy spending each morning moving, singing, and playing along with Lomax, the Hound of Music. Preschoolers will enjoy hands-on activities to develop expressiveness and creativity, unique vocal warm-up exercises, and exciting games and activities to encourage rhythm development.
Dinosaur 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/7-7/11 Session 3
Preschoolers will enter the prehistoric world of dinosaurs, as they participate in many fun dinosaur themed activities. Campers will learn the different types of dinosaurs, dig for dinosaur bones, go on a dinosaur hunt, create their own dinosaurs, and sing some popular purple dinosaur songs.
Fairy Tale 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/14-7/18 Session 4
Preschoolers will delve into the wonderful world of Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, and Goldilocks as they read about the character's fun adventures. There will also be theme-related art, and of course, lots of dress up and dramatic play.
Prince and Princess 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/23-7/27 Session 5
Prince and Princess Camp is the perfect camp for the princes and princesses in your family. If you have a child that loves music, arts & crafts, story time, and making new friends then this camp is forthem. Each day children will celebrate a different prince and princess. Children will have daily etiquette lessons, experience music and movement, build a royal castle, and much more. Each day the children will be able to create their own prince and princess reality.
Community Hero 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/28-8/1 Session 6
This camp is a fun summer camp experience that will help preschoolers build their sense of community. A community hero will visit each day. Children will meet heroes such as a real policeman, fireman, postman, and crossing guard. Children will also enjoy theme-related art and play activities.
Trains, Planes, & Automobiles 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/4-8/8 Session 7
Everything that goes! Does your preschool love Thomas the Train? Construction Trucks and Race Cars? Jay, Jay, the Jet Plan? If so, you have found the right camp. We'll all have a great time with transportation-themed fun and games. Singing "The Wheels on the Bus", building a car out of cardboard boxes, and painting our own train engines are some of the planned activities. Children will especially love riding bikes and toys on our make-believe road.
Pirate Adventure 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/11-8/15 Session 8
Shiver me timbers, this week is filled with exxciting pirate adventures! Children will have loads of fun sailing their pirate ship as they go ona treasure hunt once they find their lost treasure maps. Children will enjoy dressing up and acting lik pirates throughtout the week as well, sharing creative pirate stoires. Children will also explore the sensory table and outside water play. There will be lots of adventure this week!
04 YMCA Program Camps
Science Detectives Program Camp (Grades 5-8)
7/7-7/18 Two Week Session 3&4 Held at the Indian Valley YMCA 11 Pinney St Ellington
This camp will get to explore science at camp over two weeks. They will experiment with naturally occuring elements and everyday items to see how they work. Making a potato clock and rock candy are just two of the experiments they will do. The camp will culminate with a science convention at parent's night on July 17. Experiments will be on display in the YMCA for the following week. This camp is not just cool science stuff, campers will get to go swimming every day and camp activities such as archery and gaga ball.
Soccer Program Camp (Ages 8-14)
8/11-8/15 Session 8 Held at the Indian Valley YMCA 11 Pinney St Ellington
Come spend a week perfecting your soccer skills, making new friends, and having fun at our frst ever soccer specialty camp! Expert instruction from a special guest included. This camp is designed to develop great soccer players through sound instruction in fundamental soccer skills. All campers will receive skill instruction appropriate to their age level including: Dribbling, Passing, Receiving, Shooting, heading, Goalkeeping, teaching skills to others, Communication, Leadership, Positive team interaction, Self-practice methods, and Laws of the Game.
YMCA Camp Yankee Trails (Grades 1st-10th)
01 Traditional - Yankee Trails Adventure Camp (Ages 6-13)
It's not just a camp, it's an adventure! Swimming, arts and crafts, archery, boating, outdoor cooking, sports and games, nature activities, music, and drama are among the many activities we offer. Certain activities may be limited to certain age groups. Each camper is grouped according to age and is assigned a counselor to promote a sense of belonging, teamwork, and friendship. Campers will separated into the following age groups:
Quinnipiacs: For Campers entering 1st & 2nd grade
What a great introduction to outdoor camping. Quinnipiac campers will be guided through the outdoors by our skilled and experienced counselors. Exploration of nature, arts and crafts, and small group games are highlights of the Quinnipiac camper day. Quinnipacs will also take part in our camper mentor program.
Cherokees: For campers entering 3rd, 4th & 5th grades
As campers get older they are able to experience more of what our spectacular camp has to offer. Cherokee campers will gain the ability to try archery and boating. They will play larger team games, more detailed arts and craft projects, and look deeper into what nature has to ofer them.
Pequots: For campers entering 6th, 7th, & 8th grades
As our group of oldest campers, Pequots will get to experiencee everything that Yankee Trails has to offer. They will take on leadership roles in our camper mentor program. They will explore almost every inch of our 100+ acres and create larger craft projects such as shelter building.
At Yankee Trails, it is our goal to make a positive impact on each camper as they experience the beautiful, natural world of Yankee Trails. Daily transportation is offered from 10 locations in the Indian Valley area.Sessions and Dates

07 Yankee Trails Specialty Camps
For campers entering Grades 3-8. Our youth specialty camps are designed to provide campers with an array of theme-specific activities. Specialty campers will participate in some traditional camping activities for part of the day and their specialty camp activities for the other part. Specialty Camp activities are from 9:00AM-3:30PM. Space is limited, register early!
Fishing Camp (Entering Grades 5th-8th)
6/23-6/27 Session 1 & 7/28-8/1 Session 6
In this camp, campers will be able to experience fishing at a new level. Campers will spend their mornings fishing away at Sweetheart Lake. Campers will also be able to spend time fishing in streams and in part of the Willimantic River during this exciting week. During the week campers will learn about the different types of fish and different techniques on catching them. The camp will provide all of the equipment needed, but campers will be able to bring their own poles if they would like.
Camp Wars (Entering Grades 5th-8th)
6/30-7/3 Session 2 & 8/4-8/8 Session 7
In this camp, campers will battle at Yankee Trails every day in some of the wildest, dirtiest games you can think of. Better dress down for this camp as your artillery will include: Jell-O, Nerf armaments, water guns, shaving cream, and mud. Lots of mud!
Girl Power! (Girls Grades 4th-8th)
7/7-7/11 Session 3
For every girl with an independent spirit, this week will bring adventures — from learning to cartwheel, paddling a canoe, building a fort to curling your hair. For those who consider themselves to be girly-girls, brainiacs, athletes, or a little bit of everything.
Boating & Archery Adventures Camp (Grades 3rd-8th)
7/14-7/18 Session 4
This brand new specialty camp will be all about boating! Boat races, relays, games, adventures, and challenges are just a few of the activities planned for this week in the water.
Outdoor Cooking Camp (Grades 3rd-8th)
7/21-7/25 Session 5
In this camp, campers will experience cooking over a campfire at a whole new level. Campers will help prepare and cook items such as baked potatoes, popcorn, pizza, brown bears, banana boats, and many other foods. Campers will also prepare their very own ice cream! Throughout the week campers will create their very own cook book to bring home on Friday.
Wiffleball Camp (Grades 4th-8th)
8/11-8/15 Session 8
Finally, a camp devoted to Yankee Trail's most popular activity! Campers will spend the week practicing their wiffle ball skills, play in games and competitions such as home run derby. Campers will be placed on teams and compete in the YT Series throughout the week!
