Summer Day Camps Classes Offered at Indian Valley Family YMCA

 

YMCA Camp Indian Valley (Grades Pre K-9th)

Swimming, fun, and friends is what Camp Indian Valley is all about. At Camp Indian Valley campers have a great camp experience right at the Indian Valley YMCA. Our caring and well trained counselors lead campers through fun activities such as games, arts and crafts, and science and nature! Campers also get to swim every day in the Indian Valley Family YMCA pool in Ellington! Each session campers will celebrate a theme day and will have a special event such as a moonbounce, a magic show, or musical entertainment! Campers are broken down in three separate groups based on age.

Nipmunks: For campers entering K – 2nd Grade
Day Camp is a whole new experience for younger campers! Nipmunk campers will be introduced to the adventure of camp while getting the special attention our younger campers need. All activities are designed with the interest of your younger camper in mind.


Chippewas: For campers entering 3rd – 5th Grade
Chippewa campers enjoy choosing among a variety of age-appropriate and fun activities. Activities are more challenging to capture the interest of our older campers.  Campers will have the opportunity to learn new skills and create many friendships and memories.

Mohegans: For campers entering 6th – 8th Grade
Mohegan campers will enjoy the best of what Camp Indian Valley has to ofer.  Activities will be adapted to meet the needs of our oldest campers.  These campers will be given weekly opportunities to be mentors to our youngest campers through our mentoring activity.

03 Preschool Specialty Camps Ages 3-5  [click for more]

Our half-day preschool program will give your child the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and learn new skills. Every day will include activities such as arts and crafts, games, stories, and nature exploration. Each week campers will explore an exciting theme. Any child who is 3 years of age by June 20th and has not yet attended Kindergarten may register.  Participants should bring a mid-morning snack and drink each day. All children must be potty-trained. All programs are held Monday - Friday from 9:00AM to 12:00Noon.  Ages 3 to 5 years.  These camps are held at the Indian Valley YMCA Child Care Center, 375 Hartford Tpke, Vernon, CT 06066.

 
Little Scientist 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
6/25-6/29 Session 1

This hands-on camp will allow pre-schoolers the opportunity to delve into the world of Chemistry, Biology, and Physiology. Children will explore, observe, make their own hypothesis and test it out with age appropriate experiments. They wilwill have so much fun that they will not even realize how much they are learning.


Tumble Bugs 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/2-7/6 Session 2

Preschoolers will enjoy spending each morning moving, singing, and playing along with Lomax, the Hound of Music. Preschoolers will enjoy hands-on activities to develop expressiveness and creativity, unique vocal warm-up exercises, and exciting games and activities to encourage rhythm development.


Dinosaur 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/9-7/13 Session 3

Preschoolers will enter the prehistoric world of dinosaurs, as they participate in many fun dinosaur themed activities. Campers will learn the different types of dinosaurs, dig for dinosaur bones, go on a dinosaur hunt, create their own dinosaurs, and sing some popular purple dinosaur songs.


Fairy Tale 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/16-7/20 Session 4

Preschoolers will delve into the wonderful world of Peter Pan, Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, and Goldilocks as they read about the character's fun adventures. There will also be theme-related art, and of course, lots of dress up and dramatic play.


Animal Adventures 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/23-7/27 Session 5
This half-day preschool camp is for all animal lovers. Campers will enjoy lots of fun and furry activities including live animal visits, and animal arts and crafts. Above all, campers will make new friends and have a great YMCA experience.

Community Hero 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/30-8/3 Session 6

This camp is a fun summer camp experience that will help preschoolers build their sense of community. A community hero will visit each day. Children will meet heroes such as a real policeman, fireman, postman, and crossing guard. Children will also enjoy theme-related art and play activities.


Trains, Planes, & Automobiles 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/6-8/10 Session 7

Everything that goes! Does your preschool love Thomas the Train? Construction Trucks and Race Cars? Jay, Jay, the Jet Plan? If so, you have found the right camp. We'll all have a great time with transportation-themed fun and games. Singing "The Wheels on the Bus", building a car out of cardboard boxes, and painting our own train engines are some of the planned activities. Children will especially love riding bikes and toys on our make-believe road.


Little Chefs 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/13-8/17 Session 8

We will stir up creative recipes and have a blast making some of our favorite treats, while learning basic kitchen and cooking skills.  Join us as we prepare healthy snacks and goodies.  All materials and ingredients provided.

YMCA Camp Yankee Trails (Grades 1st-10th)

01 Traditional - Yankee Trails Adventure Camp (Ages 6-13)  [click for more]

It's not just a camp, it's an adventure! Swimming, arts and crafts, archery, boating, outdoor cooking, sports and games, nature activities, music, and drama are among the many activities we offer. Certain activities may be limited to certain age groups. Each camper is grouped according to age and is assigned a counselor to promote a sense of belonging, teamwork, and friendship. Campers will separated into the following age groups:

Quinnipiacs: For Campers entering 1st & 2nd grade
What a great introduction to outdoor camping. Quinnipiac campers will be guided through the outdoors by our skilled and experienced counselors. Exploration of nature, arts and crafts, and small group games are highlights of the Quinnipiac camper day. Quinnipacs will also take part in our camper mentor program.


Cherokees: For campers entering 3rd, 4th & 5th grades
As campers get older they are able to experience more of what our spectacular camp has to ofer. Cherokee campers will gain the ability to try archery and boating. They will play larger team games, more detailed arts and craft projects, and look deeper into what nature has to ofer them.

Pequots: For campers entering 6th, 7th, & 8th grades
As our group of oldest campers, Pequots will get to experiencee everything that Yankee Trails has to ofer. They will take on leadership roles in our camper mentor program. They will explore almost every inch of our 100+ acres and create larger craft projects such as shelter building.  

At Yankee Trails, it is our goal to make a positive impact on each camper as they experience the beautiful, natural world of Yankee Trails. Daily transportation is offered from 10 locations in the Indian Valley area.
