01 Nipmunks (entering grades k-2)

Day camp is a whole new experience for younger campers.  Nipmunk campers will be introduced to the adventure of camp while getting the special attention younger campers need.  All activities are designed with the interest of the younger camper in mind.  All activities are run by highly trained counselors who model the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

02 Chippewas (entering grades 3-5)

Chippewa campers enjoy choosing among a variety of age appropriate and fun activities. Activities are more challenging to capture the interest of our older campers.  Campers will have the opportunity to learn new skills and create friendships and memories.  All activities are run by highly trained counselors who model the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

03 Mohegans (entering grades 6-8)

Mohegan campers will enjoy the best of what Camp Indian Valley has to offer. Activities will be adapted to meet the needs and interests of our oldest campers. Campers will have the chance to take part in more challenging activities such as archery, low ropes course, hiking, shelter building, and leadership opportunities. All activities are run by highly trained counselors who model the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

05 YMCA Program Camps

Program camps are Camp Indian Valley's version of Specialty Camps.  These camps are designed to have the campers explore, grow and discouver new worlds while having fun.  All camps are age specific and are designed with the camper's interestes in mind.  Choose a program and watch your imagination soar!Program Camps are held at the Indian Valley Family YMCA, 11 Pinney St, Ellington, CT.All Camps are $230 unless otherwise noted.

Creative Campers (Grades 1-3)
6/19-6/23 Session 1
Geared for the younger campers, this camp will focus on arts and crafts. Kids explore a variety of projects such as: clay sculpture, sketching, watercolors or paints, nature collages, paper mâché, picture frames, necklaces, bracelets, and so much more.  Campers create masterpieces to take home and enjoy!

Science Detectives (Grades 5-8)
6/26-6/30 Session 2
Campers will get to explore science at camp this week. They will experiment with different occurring elements and everyday items to see how they work. Previous experiments include growing bacteria from sample as taken in the YMCA, making rock candy, changing the color of a flower, and making solar oven s’mores. This camp is not just cool science experiments; campers will also get to play camp games such as gaga ball and go swimming.

Time Traveller (Grades 1-3)
7/18-7/22 session 5
Take a trip through time. Campers will get to experience a new time period every day during this week of adventure. We will visit the dinosaurs, sail on the high seas with the pirates, visit cowboys in the Wild West, jump on a space ship to the stars, as well as spend time in Tomorrowland.

Sports Excursion (Grades 3-6)
7/24-7/28 session 6

Lcampers will get a chance to improve their skills in a wide range of sports while making new friends and having fun at camp.  This camp is designed for campers to have fun while learning new techniques within their favorite sports.  Campers will work on Willle Ball and Softball skilld, archery precision, soccer skills, along with may other fun games.

Soccer Camp (Ages 8-14)
7/31-8/4 session 7

Come spend a week perfecting your soccer skills, making new friends, and having fun at our soccer specialty camp! Expert instruction from a special guest included. This camp is designed to develop great soccer players through sound instruction in fundamental soccer skills. All campers will receive skill instruction appropriate to their age level, including: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, heading, goalkeeping, teaching skills to others, communication, leadership, positive team interaction, self-practice methods, and laws of the game

Master Builders (Grades 3-6)
8/8-8/12 session 8

The twin sister to the camp of the same name at Camp Yankee Trails, this camp is for all those who love to build. Building competitions, week long projects, and other exciting events for the LEG® enthusiast in your house are just some of the fun things your camper will get to do during this spectacular week of LEG® building fun.

Secret Agent Camp (Grades 3-6)
8/14-8/18 session 9

ThDo you want to be a spy?  Are you brave enough to accept this mission?  Can you decode messages?  We are looking for the few brave secret agents that we can count on to help with Camp Indian Valley's mission.  Do you have what it takes?  Come and find out during our all new SPY CAMP!

06 LEADERS IN TRAINING (LITs) (ENTERING GRADES 9-10)

Our LIT program is designed for campers entering 9th and 10th grade who are interested in having fun while learning skills to be successful leaders and, possibly, camp counselors! LITs will spend part of each day working with counselors and staff to develop leadership skills, organizational skills, and team building. They are seen as leaders at the camp and will take an active role in running games and activities with campers. Highlights will be visits from UConn Career Center for team building workshops, as well as runnign the camp store and choice activity time. This is a two week progressive program that requires a pre-camp interview. Interview will be scheduled during the month of June.

07 Preschool Specialty Camps Ages 3-5

Our half-day preschool program will give your child the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and learn new skills. Every day will include activities such as arts and crafts, games, stories, and nature exploration. Each week campers will explore an exciting theme. Any child who is 3 years of age by June 20th and has not yet attended Kindergarten may register.  Participants should bring a mid-morning snack and drink each day. All children must be potty-trained. All programs are held Monday - Friday from 9:00AM to 12:00Noon.  Ages 3 to 5 years.  These camps are held at the Indian Valley YMCA Child Care Center, 375 Hartford Tpke, Vernon, CT 06066.

 
Fun and Fitness 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
6/19-6/23 Session 1

Get Ready for a fun week of fitness!During this week campers will learn yoga, martial arts, experience an obstacle course and play sports. Each day will include warm-ups, floor exercises, stretching and a cool down. This session is a great way to keep the mind and body healthy! This week will be a completely positive experience.


Music Makers 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
6/26-6/30 Session 2

Does your child like "Pete the Cat," "Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom," or any story book?  Then this is the week for them!  join us for books, books, and more books!  We will tie mathematica, science experiments, and art projects into favorite children's stories.  Each "Little Librarian" will have4 a chance to create their own books as well.  They'll become real authors and illustrators by the end of the week.  Come check it out!

Music and Movement 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/4-7/7 Session 3 no camp July 4

Making their own instruments, creating their own songs, and exploring different types of music from around the world will keep your little one busy this week!  We will see how music involves counting and can also be tied to many books.  Different styles of dances will be explored and most of all we will have lots of fun!


Little Chefs 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/10-7/14 Session 4

Campers will have fun learning about health and nutrition as they create one healthy snack each day. During this session, each child will create their own personalized recipe book they will take home at the end of the week. This week will promote healthy eating habits, language and literacy, early math skills, and self-help skills.

World Explorers 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/17-7/21 Session 5

Grab your passport and come along!  Campers will exploer the culture, art, music, animals, and food of a variety of countries Guests will join us for special stories in a variety of languages and we will end the week with a multi-cultural snack time.  Your traveler will have a "passport" at the end of the week stamped with information on each place we visit.  what a great way to vacation without ever leaving home!

Little Scientist 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/24-7/28 Session 6

TKids are Natural Scientists!  This week will let your little scientist explore with hands on experiences that help them discover chemistry, physics, geology, and biology.  They will get messy while being encouraged to question the world around them.  Daily activities will also have family connections so you can continue to learn together; what a great summer activitiy.


Little Artist 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
7/31-8/4 Session 7

Help your little one explore their creative side!  This week will show little artists the many types of mediums that are available to them.  They will explore clay, painting, recovered and recycled amterials, and even edible art!  Favorite Children's book illustrator Eric Carle will also be highlighted.  Join us to experiment with color, textures, and create masterpieces all week!


Space Engineers 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/7-8/11 Session 8

Does your child love to look up at the stars?  Do they wonder about what they see?  Let them join us this week as we explore space and how to get there!  Rockets, astronauts, and planets will fill your camper's day.  we will create our own space ship using artistic skills, make model rockets like real engineers, and create out own aliens from a variety of stories.  The only limits of what we explore will be our imaginations...blast off with us!

LIttle Mathematicians 1/2 Day Preschool Camp (Ages 3-5)
8/14-8/18 Session 9

You  can count on 1-2-3-4-5 days of fun with this camp!  It's important to make math meaningful to young children.  That's just what this week will do.  Little Mathematicians will find numbers in the world around them, learn different ways of making equations with hands on materials, and use their bodies for measuring and counting.  It all adds up to active learning and great memories.

08 Summer Vacation Camp

Looking for something to do with the kids after camp ends?  Look no further!  Drop the kids off at our Summer Vacation Camp and leave the worrying to us.  Children will participate in camp related activities in a safe, secure, and fun setting.  Games such as ga-ga, 4-square, and capture the flag will be played along with swimming in our wonderful heated indoor pool.  Vacation Camp will run from 7am-6pm.  Come for one day or all of them.  Registration is required. 

 

Cost: $52/day

Camp Yankee Trails will be such a great introduction to outdoor camping for this group of youngest campers! Quinnipiac campers will be guided through the outdoors by our skilled and experienced counselors. Exploration of nature, arts & crafts, and small group games are highlights of the Quinnipiac campers' day.

As campers get older, they are able to experience more of what our spectacular camp has to offer! Cherokee campers will gain the ability to try archery and boating. They will play larger team games, enjoy more advanced arts & crafts projects, and look deeper into what nature has to offer them.

As our oldest group of campers, Pequots will have the opportunity to experience everything that Yankee Trails has to offer. They will explore almost every inch of our 100+ acres, and create larger craft projects such as shelter building.

06 Yankee Trails Specialty Camps (ENTERING GRADES 3-8)

Our youth specialty camps are designed to provide campers with an array of theme-specific activities.  Specialty campers will participate in some traditional camping activities for part of the day and their specialty camp activities for the other part.  Specialty Camp activities are done from 9:00AM-4:00PM.  

Hollywood Camp (Entering Grades 3rd-8th)
6/19-6/23 Session 1

This camp is for the actor, dancer, comedian, and musician in all of us. This week is all about careers in Hollywood! Campers will get to take part in improv acting, dancing, singing, and music, and will plan and act out their spectacular camp show for Friday afternoon! Come and have some fun with other aspiring entertainers!

Camp Wars (Entering Grades 5th-8th)
6/26-6/30 Sessions 2

In this camp, campers will battle at Yankee Trails every day in some of the wildest, dirtiest games you can think of. Better dress down for this camp as your artillery will include: Jell-O, shaving cream, and mud. Lots of mud! Participate in a variety of games too see who will be the last one standing!

Master Builders! (Entering Grades 3-6) 7/3-7/7 Session 3 - no camp July 4
SPACESHIP! SPACESHIP! SPACESHIP! Calling all Master Builders (and construction workers)! Do you like to create things out of LEGOS?  Then this camp is for you.  A whole week of nothing but LEGOS!!!! With building contests, group projects, and new building ideas you can showcase your skills at this awesome specialty camp.  Campers will participate in free swim, boating, and archery throughout the week, as well.

Boating & Archery Adventure Camp (Grades 3rd-8th)
7/10-7/14 & 8/7-8/11, Sessions 4 & 8

Our most popular specialty camp will be all about boating and archery! Boat races, relays, games, adventures, tournaments and challenges are just a few of the activities planned for this week. Space is LIMITED-- Register now!

Outdoor Cooking Camp (Grades 3rd-8th)
7/17-7/21 Session 5

In this camp, campers will experience cooking over a campfire at a whole new level! Campers will help prepare and cook items such as baked potatoes, popcorn, pizza, brown bears, banana boats, and many other campfire foods. Campers will also prepare their very own ice cream! Throughout the week campers will create their very own cook book to bring home on Friday.

Secret Agent Camp (Grades 3rd-6th)
7/24-7/28 Session 6

Are you a spy? Are you brave enough to accept this mission? Can you decode the message? We aer looking for the few, the brave, the secret agents that we can trust with the YMCA's mission secrets. Do you have what it takes? Come and find out during our Spy Camp!

Mad Scientist (Grades 4rd-8th)
7/31-8/4 Session 7
Are you ready to explore the world of science?  thie week campers will get to experiement with differentelements and everyday items to see how they work together.  Previous experiments include growing bacteria, making rock candy, changing the color fo a flower, and making a solar over to raost s'mores.  If you are a mad scientist and like to experiment then this camp is for you!

07 Leaders in Training Program (LIT) (Ages 14-15/grades 9&10)

You can be a big hero to a little child! The LIT program is designed for 14 and 15 year olds interested in having fun while learning the skills to become a successful leader and possibly a counselor. This 2 week program will have leaders working with each other in team building activities, learning how to work with children, lesson planning, and sharing ideas.  This program is designed to be a progressive skill building adventure culminating with the leaders being a "counselor for a day."  All activities are led by a staff advisor.  All LIT's will have a pre-camp interview scheduled during June.
