The Kresge Foundation of Troy, Michigan has awarded an $850,000 challenge grant to the YMCA of Greater Hartford to complete the capital campaign for the new YMCA Youth and Family Center at 430 Albany Avenue in North Hartford. The grant, which is made on a challenge basis to assist the YMCA in raising the balance of funds required to complete its capital campaign goal, will be applied toward the construction of the new facility at the corner of Albany Avenue and Brook Street.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation has awarded a $300,000 grant to the YMCA of Greater Hartford for the construction of the New North Hartford YMCA Family and Community Center, of which $100,000 was granted to the Urban League of Greater Hartford and Community Health Services, Inc. (CHS) for collaborative programming.
The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded a grant of $1 million to the YMCA of Greater Hartford for the construction of two new YMCA facilities – $500,000 each for facilities on Albany Avenue in North Hartford and in Ellington. The YMCA of Greater Hartford has received a $50,000 contribution from the Rockville Bank Foundation for the construction of the new 40,000 square foot Eastern Regional YMCA on Pinney Street in Ellington.
With the leadership of several prominent community volunteers, plans for the new Eastern Regional YMCA in Ellington are gaining traction. Groundbreaking for the 40,000 square foot facility on Pinney Street is scheduled for summer 2008, and at the project’s completion the following year, east-of-the-river families in will have access to full-facility YMCA programs and services.
