Summer Programs
Programs run from June 23 to August 22, 2008

Summer Exploration

Grades K – 5

Summer Exploration, a state licensed & ACA accredited day camp for Kindergarten to 5th grade, includes 2 weekly trips, summer swimming, melting together with Arts & Crafts, archery & sports activities.  Character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect & Responsibility are integrated into every activity.  Nurturing, professional, counselors promote an atmosphere of fun and friendship while they help children explore the world around them.

Sample field trips from 2007:

  • Old Sturbridge Village
  • Ocean Beach, New London, CT

Summer Exploration is held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., for children entering kindergarten through grade 5, at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.

Summer Adventure

Grades 6 – 8

Summer Adventure is a state licensed camp for young adults entering grades 6 through 8.  Sign up now for a summer of fun, adventure, and excitement.  We will spend our days exploring Connecticut attractions, serving our communities, and developing friendships to last a life time.  The YMCA emphasizes the four core values of respect, caring, responsibility, and honesty.  Summer Adventure runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.

Past Field Trips Included Six Flags, Rock Cats Game, Ocean Beach, golf lessons, rock climbing, Basketball Hall of Fame, movies, Sturbridge Village, miniature golf, Yankee Candle, bowling & lots more.

Before & After Care

Our state licensed extended day program operates from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Held at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.  This is also a pick up location for Camp Ingersoll.

Specialty Camps

Extreme Camp

Grades 5 – 8

Looking for activities to do this summer?  Only the adventurous type should apply.  Our EXTREME camp will take you hiking, mountain boarding and other exciting adventures.  These trips are designed to pump your adrenalin and expand your skills and learn some new ones.
Our Friday adventure will end in a trip to an amusement park for all the EXTREME rides you can handle.Bring your Helmet Camp is held from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and will start and end each day at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.

Rocket Building Clinic

Grades 3 – 5

Come and join us for an explosively good time. Program includes Model Rocket Safety, Building model rockets from kits, Flight plan & Setting your plans into action. Rocket Building Clinic is held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., includes one field trip and will meet each day at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.

Multi Sports Camp

Grades 1 – 4

Come join all the fun with a change of pace from the “normal” sport activities.  We will teach your child new and unusual sports.  Learn Ultimate Frisbee, track & field, New Games, team building activities events and much more.  A full day of multi sports runs 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Preschool Dance & Art Academy

Age 3 – 5 years old

A magical week of dance and creativity! We will combine ballet and jazz dance instruction with art projects and crafts. There will be a performance at the end of the week for parents. Soft soled ballet or jazz shoes recommended. Child should bring a snack each day. The class meets July 14-July 18 or August 11-August 15 (parents can register for either or both weeks).

Girl Power Camp

Grades 3 – 5

Hello Ladies!  Come join us for an all girl summer adventure.  Lead by female staff this Camp will build on bonding and developing girls into young ladies.  A scrapbook will catalog the weekly trips and activities.  This camp (running from 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) will build friendships that will last a lifetime.  Each day will begin and end at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.

GIRLS ONLY

Horseback Riding Academy

Age 7 years old and up

Come take a ride with us, all ability levels welcome. Participants must be 7 years old or older.

Meets 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants will receive:

  • English riding instruction
  • Learning about the parts of the horse
  • Equipment care
  • Grooming
  • Safety around horses

Program meets at 7 J’s Farm, 24 Candlewood Drive. One week sessions will run:
June 23 – June 27  
July 7 – July 11  
June 14 – July 18  
August 4 – August 8

Member: $270 per one week session
Nonmember: $305 per one week session

Detective Camp

Grades 3 – 5

This camp will give boys an opportunity to learn about law enforcement and what it takes to solve a crime. They will learn how to work together to solve problems. Field trips and guest speakers focus on the “detective” theme.

Meets 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury.
