Camp Nowashe, formerly known as Summer Fun Club, will be held at East Hartford Middle School. You may be wondering how we came up with that name. Through some research on the original inhabitants of East Hartford, the Podunks, it turns out they called their home place “Nowashe”, which means the land between rivers. We are proud to embrace our region’s history in our camp name.
The East Hartford YMCA is committed to improving the quality of programming in our community and we look forward to providing a fun and safe summer for everyone. Camp Nowashe for Kids is designed for children ranging in age from 5 to 11. This summer camp experience includes daily activities such as arts & crafts projects, group activities, sports, field games, swimming, and so much more. Campers ages 5 – 8 may enjoy weekly visits and presentations from local organizations to help create a fun and exciting camp atmosphere.Children ages 9 – 11 may participate in a weekly trip to one of many local attractions.

This program focuses on youth ages 12 – 14 and consists of activities more suited for young adults. Participants not only take part in weekly trips to local attractions, but they also focus attention on group and team games and activities. A portion of their camp time may consist of use of the new East Hartford YMCA Teen Center where the campers will be able to enjoy a number of different activities. Camp Nowashe for Teens also puts a focus on the community by giving campers the opportunity to participate in different types of service learning projects.
Session Dates: June 23 – August 22This exciting program will provide unique opportunities to our 15 and 16 year olds. Campers will work with younger campers on projects, take part in service learning and enjoy “All Camp” activities. This program is geared towards future camp counselors.

*Rolling Drop Off starts at 8:30 a.m. Children not enrolled in Extended Care may be dropped off at or after 8:30 a.m.
*Children not enrolled in Extended Care may be picked up by or before 4:00 p.m.
The East Hartford YMCA will again be offering extended care for parents who would like an earlier drop off time and/or a later pick up time for their children. Campers will take part in daily Day Camp activities between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. In the morning, a small nutritional snack will be served to campers enrolled in Extended Care Plus. In the afternoon, a small nutritional snack will be served to all campers enrolled in both Extended Care programs. When registering for camp, please indicate if your child(ren) will be participating in our extended care program by selecting the Extended Care Option you need. Pre-registration is required.
EXTENDED CARE INCLUDES DAY CAMP• A fee of $10 will be assessed for any child who is not enrolled in Extended Care and is picked up after 4:00 p.m.
• A fee of $10 will be assessed for any child who is not enrolled in Extended Care Plus and is picked up after 5:00 p.m.
• After 6 PM, a fee of $5 for every five minutes (or any part of) will be assessed for the late pick up of any child.
SUMMER CAMP OPEN HOUSE!
Join the East Hartford YMCA for our Summer Camp Open House on Tuesday June, 10th 2008 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Come meet Summer Staff as well and see our schedules, trip dates, activities, and games. This is also a great time for last-minute registrations! There will be a raffle with prizes as well as game tournaments in our Teen and Pre-Teen Centers. Call 289-6612 for any information.
