The YMCA of Greater Hartford opens its doors beyond our immediate community through it’s partnership with International YMCA’s. Our international YMCA partners include the Dominican Republic; Jerusalem; Novosibirsk, Russia; and Cape Flats, South Africa. Through these programs, the YMCA fulfills its commitment to building strong International communities.
International Programs
Teens for World Understanding brings teens from our partner YMCAs here to work as camp counselors. In the time they spend here, teens are able to experience American culture while learning valuable communication and conflict resolution skills. Moderate Voices for Progress is a program for adults of the Jewish, Muslim, and Christian faiths. Participants from Israel and Palestine come together, in the United States, to discuss cultural matters, learn about conflict resolution, develop leadership skills, and gain a better understanding of each other’s ways of life. The goal of the program is for these young adults to return home and work with others through conflict resolution dialogue.
