The last three words of the YMCA’s vision statement are “membership for all.” But we discovered recently that many families in our community choose not to participate at our current membership rates. We wanted to find a way to make the YMCA accessible to ALL in order to fulfill that aspect of our vision. The YMCA is very happy to have found a way. Now all individuals will have a place that is accessible where they can exercise and play with a healthier lifestyle in mind. It’s with this spirit that the YMCA introduces Membership For All.
Exactly what it suggests – it is a way to work with families and individuals to ensure that everyone can have access to the YMCA. The program uses a sliding scale rate structure based on gross annual household income that is designed so that all people are able to have access to the YMCA, regardless of income.
The income-based rate scale was designed for gross annual household incomes up to $64,999. The scale is divided into income ranges and membership categories, which include:

Q: Who is eligible for the YMCA Membership For All (MFA) Program?
A: Those with gross annual household income less than $65,000 per year.
Q: I am a current Greater Hartford YMCA Member and would like to take advantage of MFA, how can I do that?
A: You would have to fill out a membership change form application and provide a copy of your most recent tax return and two recent pay stubs.
Q: How is the amount I pay determined?
A: YMCA’s Membership For All program is based on household annual gross income.
Q: If I feel the MFA rate is more than I can afford, can I still apply for and receive financial assistance?
A: Yes, if you feel that your situation deems additional assistance please ask for a YMCA financial assistance application. The application considers your overall situation, including the number of dependents and monthly income.
Q: Is it possible to join the YMCA for free?
A: The YMCA believes a strong sense of ownership and pride is developed when a person contributes to the cost of their YMCA involvement. Therefore, applicants are expected to pay a portion of the fee.
Q: How soon is the MFA amount determined?
A: The membership and MFA rates will be entered at the time the application is completed and returned to member center.
Q: What if I do not have my financial information?
A: If you do not have verification of the household income category you select on your membership application, the YMCA will honor the rate selected for 30 days. If verification is not obtained within 30 days your YMCA membership will be canceled.
Q: For how long is my MFA rate good for?
A: One year from the inception of your MFA membership rate. However, you will have to provide verification of household income yearly.
Q: If I received a MFA rate for one year, how do I continue to maintain a MFA yearly rate?
A: To continue to maintain a MFA rate, you will have to provide verification of household income yearly. MFA rate renewal letters will be sent within 45 days prior to your renewal. MFA member need to provide current tax information to continue to maintain a MFA rate or your membership rate will reflect full price.
Q: Where is my financial information kept?
A: Financial information is reviewed and returned.
Q: Will I be treated differently and will other members know my Membership For All rate?
A: No, the YMCA strives to serve everyone regardless of personal circumstances. All membership information is confidential.
Q: Is Membership For All available for all programs offered by the YMCA?
A: No, Membership For All is currently available for Full Facility memberships only.
Q: If I receive MFA can I still receive Financial Assistance for other programs?
A: Yes
