YMCA of Greater Hartford Receives $50,000 Gift Rockville Bank Foundation
The YMCA of Greater Hartford has received a $50,000 contribution from the Rockville Bank Foundation for the construction of the new 40,000 square foot Eastern Regional YMCA on Pinney Street in Ellington.
“We are grateful to Rockville Bank for its generous contribution,” says Gary Wolff, member of the Greater Hartford YMCA Board of Directors and co-chair of the Eastern Regional Major Gifts Committee. “We have an opportunity to make a difference on this side of the river, and Rockville Bank has brought us one step closer to delivering the benefits of a full-service YMCA to families east-of-the-river,” says Wolff.
“The Rockville Bank Foundation is pleased to announce a donation of $50,000 toward the construction of the Eastern Region YMCA facility to be built in Ellington, CT,” says Joseph F. Jeamel, Chief Operating Officer of Rockville Bank and Director of the Rockville Bank Foundation. “The new facility will provide opportunities to participate in activities that will enhance the health and happiness of citizens in Vernon, Tolland, Ellington, and South Windsor.”
Once completed, the Eastern Regional YMCA will meet the growing demand for quality family and adult services in the region. The facility will have two swimming pools (a lap pool and a warm water multi-pupose pool), a wellness center, group exercise studios, child care and child watch rooms, organized youth and adult programs and much more. Schools and civic organizations will be able to use the facility for meetings and events, and the facility will become a gathering place for the community.
“We are happy to see the Y expanding in our area and wish them much success in their fundraising. Their enhanced presence will do a lot of ‘friendraising’ for area residents,” says Rockville Bank President, William J. McGurk. McGurk’s first exposure to the Y was in his home town of Pittsfield where he participated in after school Friday programs at the downtown Y. Bill and his father, Jim McGurk, took part in many Y Indian Guide programs.
