On the second Monday of each two week session Camp Chase holds an evening event for all interested families. This is a great opportunity for parents and siblings to meet staff, tour the facilities, and get a tiny taste of the experiences their child enjoys all summer long. All costs associated with Family Night are included in the initial registration fees with the exception of a small fee for family members attending dinner.
Family Night is an extended day program for campers—who do not exit for home at their usual time, but rather stay at camp to participate in activities until dinner. From 4pm until 5:30pm, campers enjoy camp programming. At 5:30 everyone moves down to the lower pavilion for a pizza dinner. Families are encouraged to meet their children at this time and eat together with their counselors. At 6:20 everyone moves to the amphitheatre for an event designed around the session theme. Parents—be ready to be wild and crazy! At 7:30 the event ends and families head home.
Overnights are always eagerly anticipated at Camp Chase. The chance to bond with friends counselors, make s’mores, play Capture the Flag at dusk, and spend an entire night at the camp they love. Because overnights do not begin until 5th grade (Pioneers), younger campers build up excitement for years until they are old enough to participate.
Overnights are an extended day program (like Family Night), so campers must remember to bring the following items with them on the day of the overnight: sleeping bag, change of clothes (and extra bathing suit), toothbrush, flashlight, any necessary medication, and two lunches (one for the following day).
Overnights begin with extended day programming at 4pm, which lasts until dinner around 5:30pm. After dinner a variety of activities occur for different ages. Rangers (7th and 8th grade) plan, set-up, decorate and execute a dance for their unit—which is well-attended by staff.
As the evening progresses younger campers swim, play an activity like capture the flag, enjoy night hikes, have s’mores and group bonding time, and eventually settle them down for night in a sleeping bag. In the morning, campers eat a light breakfast and relax until the camp day begins.
The costs associated with overnights are included in the initial registration fee!
Although Rascals (3rd and 4th grade) are not yet old enough to attend overnights, Camp Chase runs a special program just for that age group. Rascal Night is an extended day that lasts until 8:30pm. Rascal Night functions similarly to overnights—with the major difference being that their evening is cut short before many of the later activities.
This is a great program to help young campers transition to being comfortable with staying all night at camp. Since most campers want to stay at camp as long as humanly possible, you should be sure to sign your Rascal up for this activity!
The costs associated with Rascal Night are included in the initial registration fee!
