Q) Will my child be in the same group as his friend?
A) If you wish your child to be in the same group, we need a written
request from BOTH families. Requests should go to our registrar, via
hard copy or email. If the children are in different grades, we may be
unable to accommodate the request.
Q) Tell me more about camp overnights.
A) Overnights are for grades 5 and up. (Grades 3&4 do an
Extended Day program that is similar, but ends at 8:30pm)The overnight
schedule is included in your packet. All fees are included in your
registration price, but campers are not required to attend. Campers
participate in planned afternoon activities, eat dinner together, and
have evening events as well. Grades 7 and up are invited to attend an
evening dance planned by the Rangers. All campers must RSVP minimum
three days before the event. Look for permission slips coming home with
campers during the first week of the session. Campers MUST remember to
bring two lunches the day of the overnight (dinner and breakfast will
be served).
Q) Tell me more about Family Nights.
A) The second MONDAY of each session all families are invited to
attend our camp family night. At 5:30pm campers, counselors and family
eat dinner together. Afterwards campers are encouraged to give their
families tours of camp. From 6:30pm to 7:30pm everyone participates in
an activity designed around the particular session theme. All families
must RSVP minimum three days before the event. Camper fees are included
in their registration. Any family members eating will be charged five
dollars per person. Look for permission slips coming home with campers
during the first week of the session.
Q) Do Specialty Camps participate in swim lessons? Free swim?
A) YES. All campers (with the exception of trip based groups) are
expected to participate in swim lessons. Campers are tested and put in
appropriate classes on the first day of the session. Specialty Camps
will also be given a regular free swim time as well (With the exception
of Wildlife Explorers and Outdoor Adventure)
Q) Can we see camp before the summer?
A) YES. We have an OPEN HOUSE on May 10th from 12-4pm. Additionally,
our facilities are open for members beginning Memorial Day Weekend.
Check our website for hours of operation. Nonmembers can schedule a
tour during those hours.
Q) What happens if it rains?
A) LOTS OF THINGS! First of all, a misty or lightly rainy day will
not stop us from following our normal schedule (so send your child with
a light rain jacket). If it is a steady downpour, we resort to our vast
arsenal of indoor activities, including portable teamwork activities,
character values lessons, skits, songs, group games, portable sports
activities and much more. We also continue to hold our popular spirit
assemblies indoors.
Q) What if my child needs to arrive late, leave early, or miss a day?
A) Simply send a note the day before with your child; or email our
camp registrar (all requests MUST be in writing for our records). For a
late arrival, bring the camper directly to the camp office, sign them
in, and a staff member will escort them to their group. For early exit,
come directly to camp office and camper should be waiting their. Only
authorized parties will be allowed to sign-out campers. Please have ID
ready.
Q) How do I get in touch with my camper in case of emergency?
A) Call the camp line (673-4321), and your child will be summoned immediately.
Q) What if my child misses the bus?
A) Parents of campers missing the bus will be responsible for their
transportation to camp. Bus monitors are trained to leave at the time
indicated on the schedule. Please follow our instructions and have your
child their at least 10 minutes for scheduled departure time.
Q) What if my child gets hurt?
A) We have been fortunate to have a very clean history of running a
safe camp, however, in the event that your child sustains a minor
injury, he will be treated by the camp nurse and you will be notified.
If a major injury occurs, emergency authorities will be called in as
well.
Q) What if my child loses something?
A) There is a lost and found line located at the camper pick-up pavilion. Every week unclaimed items are donated to local charities.
Please encourage your camper(s) to check the lost and found line daily. Parents should send campers with nothing of real monetary value, and
remind campers to check the contents of their backpack prior to exiting
camp each day. If a significant item does go missing, please call the
day camp office, and we will do our best to help locate it. Ultimately,
though, we are not responsible for any items campers bring with them to
camp.
Q) What items are unacceptable for my child to bring to camp?
A) We do not allow (this is not a comprehensive list): electronics
of any kind (including I-pods and video games), weapons of any kind,
toys, personal sports equipment (unless otherwise instructed), shoes
with wheelies, open-toed shoes, books or material containing anything
inappropriate. Code of Conduct
